Early Learning
Though you think of education as starting when a child enters kindergarten, you should know that early learning can begin as young as one year of age. Children aren’t just learning about the world around them, they are slowing learning things like color, logic, counting, letters and fair play. Though you may not even realize it, you may have the biggest impact in these areas, and how they learn will stay with them for the rest of their lives. You can turn to someone to help if you are like me. I’m not good at teaching, and I know it. Early learning for my daughter came from the Click to Read More

African American History
When I was in the public schools, black history education was just not part of the curriculum. There were a few famous black figures who we looked at, but in general African Americans were noticeably absent from the curriculum. Even slavery seemed to barely merit the attention of my teacher. Those of us who wanted to know about the real story of this country had to do the research on their own. With African American history becoming a bigger part of American education than ever, it is easy for us to forget how little time has passed since those days. That is why Black history month is Click to Read More

Online Course
My first online course wasn’t properly a course at all. It was more like an online discussion group, led by a friend who was familiar with the subject matter. Basically, he was guiding us through the classics of European literature, assigning us projects to help us to familiarize ourselves with the material. We wouldn’t have actually held it is an online class except for the fact that we were also busy with our schedules. We only had time to meet about once every other week, so we figured that an online course was the best way to go. It worked very well! We had some pretty Click to Read More

Research Careers
Do you know what you want to do when you grow up? This is a major question that burdens some of us into our 30s. Or possibly even longer. Consider this: you actually have to choose one career path in life and stick to it for a good 40 years. That’s frightening! What if you realize you don’t like it? What if you change your mind 10 years down the road? These questions can cause all sorts of problems. By switching a career later in life, you risk losing crucial retirement money, benefits and more. This is why it’s imperative to research careers diligently before choosing Click to Read More

Education Leadership
The link between education and leadership is something that shrewd businessmen have known for a long time. The myth of the man of the streets, completely used to being in control and having a strong and personality, has been all but dissolved in the corporate world. Learning To Read
One of the biggest emphasis in kindergarten these days is learning to read. When I went, we did not start that until first grade, but those days are long gone. The great news is that many children are ready to learn reading at this age, and that means they have great success with the fundamentals they need. However, some children, especially those that have just turned five when they start school, are going to have some problems keeping up. This means parents may have to help. Learning to read is something that most children take great pride in, especially if their parents have read to them Click to Read More

Harvard Admissions
It is no secret that Harvard undergraduate admissions are difficult. Every year, the Harvard University admissions office declines to accept thousands of students with perfect academic records. You can have a 4.0 grade point average and an SAT score well above 1500. It doesn’t matter. Unless you are a legacy student who has had family go to Harvard before, or can prove to the Harvard admission office that there is something special and unusual about you, forget about it: you just aren’t getting it. That is why my friends were so incredulous when they found out that I was Click to Read More

Top Schools
One huge consideration all parents have is their child’s education. We all want the best for our children, but not all children can go to the top schools. That’s a shame really, as it would seem it would be possible for many schools to have this distinction. Instead, there are some really great ones, and there are some that are failing miserably. I often wonder why we are so concerned with butting into business in other countries when we need help right here at home. We are going to fail as a nation if our children cannot get a good education. That means all children. I am very Click to Read More

Defensive Driving Course
I recently got in touch with a friend I had not talked to in over a year. We hadn’t really had a fight, but for some reason we had slowly drifted apart. While we were catching up, she mentioned that she had to go take a defensive driving course in order to get her license back. Though I never thought of her as an aggressive driver, I can see why some of her driving skills might have been called into question. I love her dearly, but I have to say that her driving leaves something to be desired. She told me that the Department of Motor Vehicles had informed her that she could not renew Click to Read More

Improve Memory
Ever since I entered college, I have been obsessed with improving memory. You see, I am pretty intelligent, but my memory has never matched my other intellectual skills. Normally, as soon as I finish studying for a test, I forget the information. If I am determined enough, I can keep it in to my mind for as long as it takes to pass the exam, but for no longer. Unfortunately, in college there is much more material to memorize than there ever was before. I barely made it through my first semester because I kept forgetting facts. I feared that if I didn’t find a way to improve memory, I Click to Read More
