Skin Prick Test For Nut Allergies
You would be surprised at the number of people who have to deal with food allergies and in particular, nut allergies.
This is not only the case with tree nuts but it is especially the case with peanuts, as these are two totally different things.
Although it certainly is possible for somebody to have an allergy to both, it is more likely that they will have an allergy to one or the other. This is because there are specific proteins that are in nuts which invoke a response in our body as if they were harming us in some way. It is not really a reaction to the nuts that we are having, it is a reaction because our body is releasing histamine in such large quantities that it becomes damaging to our health.
Of course, a nut allergy does not always come about in such a severe form whenever it first starts out.
As a matter of fact, many parents who have children with severe nut allergies don’t even recognize the fact that it is taking place, sometimes until a severe reaction occurs.
That is why it is necessary, if you see any of these reactions that are occurring whenever nuts are eaten, that you inform your doctor immediately so that they are able to test and see if there is actually a problem there. Although there are several different type of test for allergies, one of the most common than is given is known as the skin prick test.
The skin prick test is relatively easy to take and it only takes moments in order for the doctor to determine if you have a nut allergy or not. Basically, they are going to prick you with a needle which has a little bit of the nut protein on it in order to see if you have a reaction on your skin. It is very rare that you also have a larger reaction to this type of test but your doctor will be prepared in case such a thing occurs. It is really just a little scratch and is not something that you need to worry about, as if it were a shot.
Knowing for sure whether you have a nut allergy or not can save your life. Once you realize that you have one of these problems, then you can go about avoiding them and living your life normally, although nut free.
